elcoCAD R4, a cutting edge solution
for electrical installation engineering.
"Video killed the radio star” – and AutoCAD
killed the drawing board. So, what’s next ? Lately there
has been a lot of talk about BIM (Building Information Model)
and object-oriented CAD in the AEC software industry. This technology
marks a step change in the capabilities of CAD software - change
driven by the growing demands and higher expectations of the
building industry.
The need for high quality well integrated documentation has
become more and more pressing and the limitations of pure CAD
systems increasingly apparent. Today’s building industry,
particularly the electrical installation sector demands the
kind of transparency and flexibility which goes way beyond traditional
CAD offerings. elcoCAD R4 is one such solution. Currently it
is the market leader in Germany – a UK version will be
available before the end of the year.

So what kind of functionality is offered by such a system? It
provides all the necessary symbols and drawing functions, for
example automatic positioning, alignment of lamps, loudspeakers,
automatic creation of cable trays in 2D and 3D, and an automatically
generated drawing legend. But more than that elcoCAD R4 includes
a project and drawing management facility, and has the ability
to automatically transfer relevant drawing data, like title,
indices, approval status etc. into the DWG-file. All of this
is a vast improvement on the standard drawing-board. Here we
will look in more detail at some of elcoCAD’s more advanced
features.
